From Mindo, Ecuador to Dexter, Michigan
We’d like to introduce you to our newest friends from Mindo Chocolate Makers. It all started in 2008 when Jose (Joe) took a trip to Ecuador with a plan to retire. His entrepreneurial spirit wasn’t prepared to rest, however, and he began roasting coffee and processing cacao on his property. Soon after, the chocolate-making process was imported to Dexter, Michigan with the help of an Ecuadorian farmer growing cacao trees intermixed with other plants promoting midge population (cacao pollinators) which also maintains habitat for birds and other animals.
The chocolate is made with 100% Ecuadorian “flavor” beans (these are often mixed with a lower cost and less flavor bean to make other chocolates) and they are never exposed to contaminants, fertilizers or pesticides. The flavor is pure, smooth, and absolutely decadent. You can find the Mindo Chocolate in our specialty candy department.

The Power of Chia
So, last week we introduced a fantastic new beverage, Mamma Chia. Our guests and team members are going nuts for this drink! Every time you turn around, someone is raving about the taste and health benefits of Mamma Chia. Youtube videos are on repeat, the refrigerator in our office is stocked, and some of us are even talking about it in our sleep.

Skinny is everywhere these days: Skinny Jeans, Skinny Bitch, Skinnygirl Margarita, Skinny Dipping, and of course Skinny Pop Popcorn.
Plain and simple: It tastes great and there’s “no artificial anything.” It’s just popcorn and they’ve popped it so it tastes shockingly delicious and is insanely addictive. Oh *munch, munch* there are only 39 calories per cup.

Fish You Can Trust
We all have standards, but when it comes to fish…nobody has standards like CleanFish. So, luckily for you, when you purchase any CleanFish seafood you can rest assured that the fish was raised or caught in the most sustainable way possible.
Just think: A fish that swims vigorously at low density develops a muscular body and fine flesh. A shrimp that eats a wholesome diet tastes sweet. The story adds up to this: for once, what is good for you and the planet is what you want most.
The CleanFish Alliance of artisan producers offer some of the world’s best tasting seafood. Each member of the CleanFish Alliance demonstrates extraordinary environmental stewardship that translates into a superior quality fish and a healthier planet.

We bring in local produce as soon as it’s in season and will have it for as long as it meets our local produce standards. For example, we recently brought in shitake mushrooms that are grown on oak logs and are hand selected by our friends at Nature and Nurture in Ann Arbor, less than a mile from our store.
And this week, we are happy to have Michigan asparagus! A sure sign that spring is here, and summer is not far behind.
