Thursday, April 18 | Sonoma’s Martinelli Winery w/ Special Guest Juliana Martinelli $25
Five generations of Martinellis have worked together producing apples and wine in Sonoma’s Russian River Valley. In the late 1800’s, Giuseppe Martinelli and his wife Luisa eloped from Tuscany, making their way to California looking to start a winery. They planted Zinfandel and Muscat vines in a now famous vineyard which became known as “Jackass Hill”. This remains the steepest non-terraced vineyard in Sonoma County! Today, legendary winemaker Helen Turley is Martinelli’s consultant. We’ll sample their handcrafted, un-filtered Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel and Syrah, what a fine California treat.
Thursday, April 25 | The Perfect French Vintage for the New World! $20
2009 Red Bordeaux is the ultimate crowd pleaser – open, generous, concentrated, almost American in character. The style of this vintage is of great appeal to our market – the wines taste great in their youth and will develop layers with further bottle ageing. It doesn’t hurt that they’ve gotten consistently high ratings from the wine press. We’ll taste through a broad range of 2009 petit châteaux from the larger Bordeaux appellation as well as from the communes of St. Émilion, St. Estephe and Margaux.
Thursday, May 2, 2013 |
Beyond the Danube & Vienna – Discover Austria! $20
We’ll taste several examples of Austria’s signature white wine, Grüner Veltliner, affectionately known by sommeliers everywhere as “Groovy” – an apt reflection of its fabulously unique character. Dry Riesling is another Austrian specialty we’ll savor as well as the native red varietals Zweigelt and Blaufrankisch. The primary growing regions of Wachau, Burgenland and Styria will been represented by stellar producers – Heinrich, Stadt Krems, Loimer, Neckenmarkt, Domaine Wachau and Hoepler. And, stellar sparkling wine from Sektkellerei Szigeti will kick off the party. We’re planning on opening the patio, weather permitting. Come bask in an intimate springtime introduction to a great European wine-producing region!
